I've had great luck with my gymnogeophagus rhabdotus. They stay on the smaller side and I keep mine with 2 veil angelfish with no problems!!!

i'll look into geos, i like them but have never looked into keeping them. i think i'll go with a pair of angels and some kind of geo.
I think that a few discus would make the tank shine but if you want to stay away from that, then rams would also look nice
