Hey, so I'm planning on putting plants in a 20 gallon community tank I want to set up. What plants are hardy and can live on low voltage? And is it true that if u put plants in your tank you will have problems with algea? Thankyou!

I have lots of algae in my 5g with plants. so you will need around 2-4wpg (watts per gallon) for most low light plants. For example, Amazon swords, java moss, java ferns, anubias, anacharis and others will do fine under that light. A specialized substrate is ideal, i don't recommend Eco-complete. Flourite is good. some otto catfish will clean the algae nicely.

Depends on the source. Get them from a reputable supplier and inspect them for algae before adding to the tank and you should be fine. I suggest the Java twins- Java fern and Java moss- as hardy low-light plants that thrive in almost any setup.

And would tetras a German blue ram cories and a dwarf gourami be ok with them?

Certainly. German blue rams are very sensitive to water quality so be careful.

do you think 10 cardinal tetras, one german blue ram, 6 cories, and a dwarf gourami will look good with swords, and java ferns against a black background?
And should I like wash the plants before I put them in?
