Should I also have snails in the tank or will they take over it?
just get snails the cant breed on their own.

Some people hat snails in their tank, personally I don't mind them. They eat algae and dead leaf matter. There is a myth that they eat plant leaves(helthy ones) I don't buy it.

Malaysian Trumpet Snails are beneficial to a planted tank, cuz they act liek worms do in a garden, by mixing around the soil, and eating nasty stuffs under the substrate.
Pond snails are the ones peeps say eat healthy plants.
Ramshorn snails eat algae.
The MTS snails you'll see once in a while. The other two you will see all the time and there nasty little eggs all over. You could always get some predatory snails..jeesh forgot the name of them, but they will reproduce also..haha

Snails will come with your plants btw, so be prepared, unless you get some snail killing dip before introducing the plants to your tank.

Hi, yesterday I picked up some peppered cories, and they occasionaly swim to the surface then go back to swimming on the bottom. is this normal, I checked my water and no other fish are doing it? Oh and will fancy guppies be compatible with neon tetras and a neon dwarf gourami?
One more question would swords and java fern grow in sand?

yes, totally normal for cories, another fantastic plant that i've had for about 5 months now is water wisteria. I just have a standard plant light on my tank, and its growing amazingly, just let the roots grow out well, and you wont have any problems growing them, and they do help the nitrate load

i actually found them at a lfs, i had to research to find out what i had, becuase i liked them so much. I'm sure you could find them online somewhere
