Want to start an eel tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I bought the eel its about 12" and in a 250g with a RTC, I had two P-Bass but they both died for some reason :S

Move the eel or the RTC.. the RTC will eat the eel. Those are very very bad tank-mates. Large cats in general are a huge No-no with most fish. spiney eels have some defenses.. but not against a hungry catfish.

the cat is only 4" right now i think he will be fine for now right?

I had a 4" TSN eat a 6" aba aba knife.. the knife has about the same body shape/mass as an eel. I would not trust the RTC as far as I can throw it.. it will grow large enough to eat the eel in less then a month.. literally...

I have no previous experience with him so ill trust you. aha

I have a 15" fire eel in my malawi peacock tank and dont have any issues at all. I think it has a lot to do with your tank layout and decor.

Some people have had problems and some have been fine with it. Get the eel first, get him tame and then try other fish.

I have set up a worm farm at home for my eel because he will only eat earth worms. Its a 5 gal black bin and from that I get enough worms to feed him every night and occasionally spoil the other fish too. I even keep it inside the house and it has no smell at all.

It costs nothing to keep running so I dont have a food bill at all for the eel.

The best part is you can control how many worms you need by the amount of food scraps you put into the farm. The worm population blooms when you add lots of scraps at once and they die down a bit when you add less.

i have not seen him eat. He ate a chuck of talapia that was on the bottom for the cat but spat it back out. He doesnt eat the bloodworms but when i feed them but in the morning the blood worms are gone. Hes not active during the day. At night i see him come out.

thats always fun!
