This is a general enquiry aimed at the Aussies out there. There's a very strong chance that i'm soon going to be moving to your very lovely part of the world (Perth to be exact) so i'm hoping there's a WA based MFKer stumbles accross this as I have a few questions.

Firstly, I'd like to be able to bring some of my fish with me as i'm quite attached to them but can't find a definitive banned species list anywhere and would hate to spend lots of money on shipping a 2ft catfish just to have it destroyed on arrival!

I also have enquiries about various fish prices over there as I know some are a lot more expensive than they are for us in the UK, so if i'm bringing fish anyway then i may as well bring more that you guys want and will sell well.

If you feel you can help with my Aussie fishy questions then please PM me so i can asked specifics.

Thanks guys.

Hi,

Not Western Australian but hope I can be of assistance.

There's a restricted species list here: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=712831&postcount=45

Sorry to say things look a little grim for you.

Fish Species Restricted for Importation into Western Australia

Under Regulation 176 of the Fish Resources Management Regulations 1995 , a person must not bring into the State a species of fish not endemic to the State without the written approval, or written authority, of the Executive Director of the Department of Fisheries.

Please contact the Translocation Officer at the Department of Fisheries Head Office for further information and to request a Translocation Application Pack.
Hope you can work something out.

Hm I'd just give them good new homes and start again, hard maybe but so much easier and less stressful for the fish. Doubt they'd "appreciate" the trip given the choice eh.

I haven't personally been back to Australia in a long time, but last time i was there i did remember they are extremely strict on what they allow in...

Anyway here is the quarantine website for Australia, with a few contact numbers at the bottom, so hopefully this will be of some help...

-EDIT-

Just found this link as well which might be even more useful, since it lists what fish are supposedly allowed in??? LINK TO LIVE FISH IMPORT TO AUSTRALIA

Or instead of trying to bring your monster fish over here, why don't you checkout the native monster fish we have here in australia? Barramundi, saratoga, mangrove jack, murray cod, sooty grunter to name a few.

Best of luck with it!

thats only one question, a few generally implies three or more

Would be a shame to have to leave them all and start again but if i have to then i have to. Such is life:(

Yep. Would have been there already if that last job hadn't fallen through. Not sure on the exact date yet, waiting to hear back.

yea i knew about the last one but i thought that was it for a few years
well i think we will have to sort out a final meet in manc before u go and actually make sure people go...like rambo MWAHAAHAHAHAHA

The easiest thing for you to do is to not bring them.

This thread has the list of fish that are able to be imported to australia
http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=326073&highlight=australian+import

So basically if you have tetras or livebearers you can bring them along lol.
But even then you need to get approval to bring them which is alot of paperwork then youll need to find an AQIS approved quarantine facility down here to hold your fish for a certain period of time before they can be deemed safe to enter australia.
Its not worth the trouble really.
