I mean its a nice sized set up but no where near big enough for a full grown nurse. Plus nurse sharks are pigs and they will reach maximum size very quickly. Not to mention that they would need an insane amount of food to keep which would be really expensive. I would advise you to look into small species such as coral cat sharks, brown banded bamboos, and other sharks that stay around 3 feet in length. I actually think they look much better than nurses. No one here will think its a good idea to put a nurse in that pool. I think someone should make a sticky about nurses.
The pool is 17 feet long 10 wide and 4feet deep those were the footprint sizes and the guy told me he built it to that size on the nosekrj-1168;2121572;2121572 said:Well - 1200 gallons really doesn't tell us how big or how much of a footprint - your tank has. And this is key to depending how long you may be able to keep a small Nurse shark in it.
BTW- if your really serious about getting a Nurse. I would highly suggest planning you ahead. While many online sources may claim that Nurse Sharks reach 14' in length. Most reliable studies and sources only confirm a maximum length of about 10-12'. Still - keeping a Nurse for life will mean that you need to plan to keep it for at least 25-30 years(possibly more), and that really need a Tank or pond with a footprint of about 700-1,000 sq.ft.
And it would also be best to start with a small pup (about 12") Since at this size it will likely take about 6-9 years to reach maturity (at 7-7.5') - if the pup isn't overfeed. By the time the Nurse reachs maturity it should already be in the pond/tank that it will be kept in for the rest of it's life. As a 7-7.5' Nurse will likely weigh as much as a normal Human male (roughly 150-200 lbs.).
