are they all males? i had one that was brownish yellow and one of my friends told me it was female. those are some sweet fish.

I actually do not know if they are males, females or some of each. I had read awhile back how to sex them and I remember the verbage said it was easy. However, I didn't pay enough attention to remember... We're not at all interested in breeding the fish, so I haven't really tried to figure out what's what in terms of male or female with them. The lighter colored / prettiest one does seem to be the boss but they are pretty mild mannered really so it's not a strongly obvious pecking order from my perspective.
 
Awesome fish, These guys don't get enough press. I breed the orange strain and cant give them away in the Pacific Northwest. You would figure a fairly peaceful colorful small growing central would be more popular. Great pictures.

As far as size, they are not monster fish caliber at all. I'm guessing mine are 3-4".

They're some of my favorites... :)
 
There is an "orange" morph of rainbows that is quite brighter/prettier than the standard rainbow we usually see. They are sold on aquabid quite a bit.
