Wanting to add a wide bar dat and jade "sleeper" goby

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I bought my 5 inch goby last night and it doesn't seem to want to eat anything. I put algae wafers in the tank, krill and hikari sinking carnivore pellets and it touched nothing. It didn't eat any pellets this morning either. What should I do?

I apologize for the smug response, but it was basically said above. There are no such thing as small widebar datnoids anymore, just overzealous sellers quick to make a buck at the expense of optimistic hobbyists.

I see. Well, even if it is a fake, I may still buy it. haha. I went into the media lounge and saw some HUGE datnoids which made me think that perhaps I should stick with the one datnoid I have. I don't know if a 300 gallon is enough for two datnoids plus the fish on my list for life.

With dats you either want just 1 or 5+ or you'll likely encounter bad aggression problems.

So if there are two dats in the tank, there will be bad aggression problems even if there are plenty of other fish in the tank as well?

Yeah if you have enough distracting tank mates you should be fine..

With 2 dats in a tank, there will be aggression problems. I even had aggression problems with 3 dats in a 60g tank. The two biggest ones would pick on the smallest one. Like blackshark said, 5 or more is always better. Plus, once you buy one dat, you'll probably want to buy a lot more anyway.

I already bought a dat and now I want another one. That's why I'm asking. I have a thin bar and wanted to add a wide bar. So far, my stocklist is:

1 clown knife
1 thinbar dat
1 jade goby (just bought it)
1 gold severum
1 black ghost knife
1 fire eel
1 leopard ctenopoma
7 clown loaches
3 silver dollars

I wanted to add a widebar dat to finish off my stock. If the two are just going to fight, then I'll just stick with the one I have. I don't have the space to add 4 more dats to make five. I was hoping that there were enough other tankmates present to distract the two datnoids so they don't fight each other. The size of these fish are in the first post of this thread. Will this group be fine together longterm? I'll remove the BGK if it becomes a problem with the CK later, for instance.
