Hey Guys,

I couldn't find any stickys or posts that had an introduction on how to raise an arowana. I'm a owner of six red belly piranhas (4 inches) and I'm getting a 125 Gallon next weekend.

Could anybody tell me some useful tips, or possibly link me to a thread that could explain everything about arowanas?

Lastly, would a 75gallon tank be appropriate for a silver arowana?

no 75 gallons is way too small, they can get big fast. But a 75g for a grow-out tank its ok for a while if its small.

I'm planning to put the baby arowana in the 75 gallon tank for a bit. When would be an approriate time to move it out of the tank?

^Like said above 75g would be perfect for a growout on a silver aro, only until 16'' at most (better to swap it out at 1ft)..but best to raise in a tank u plan to keep it in for life. so the appropriate tank would be 240g+ should find a tank like 6x2.5x2 minimum bigger the better

At what age would the arowana hit 16"?

In less than a year.

Would they have the tendency to jump out of the tank before hitting one year old?

My plan is to hold the arowana in the 75 gallon for three months until I can gather up some funds to buy something larger. This wouldn't be a problem right?

/edit - my tank dimensions are: 48, 12(W), 18(H) - does this sound like a 75 gallon? Or was I fooled =[
