so i could keep a discus in a ten gallon?
how many fish (min.) would you guys suggest to keep agression/shyness to a minimum?
cause they're expensive, and i am poor.

Yes they are kinda expensive, so it is best not to skimp on there living conditions. I would not keep less than 4 together(except for breeding pairs) and I wouldn't do less than a 55 gallon.

Good discus starter tank.

-55 gallon (48" x 13" x 21") Bare bottom for now.
-Emporer 400 filter, bio wheels only no filter pads(with the amount of water changes mechanical filtration is not needed)
-50% water changes 2x a week. best if water is aged and at temp.
-Temp at 84 degrees, so get two visa therm stealth heaters(you will want to be able to go to 90 degrees for certain medications) size at 5 watts per gallon.
-start with 8 juvinilles 2.5-3" this will end up being too many for the tank, but you can have variety and you'll probably want a larger tank anyhow
- feed 3 times daily with a variety of HIGH quality foods.

well how big a tank would i need for the eight to grow up in?
like premade discus foods?

Well for eight adults a 90 gallon (48" x 18" x 24") would be perfect. it is the same footprint as a 75 gallon but the extra height is great for discus.

High quality flakes, fozen blood worms, beef heart, Jack Wattley formula frozen food, I also feed mine freeze dried tubifex worms.

would a seventy five work? or should i just lose a discus?

You can do 8 discus in a 55 very comfortably....just that when they become full sized adults (6"+), they will be a tad cramped. So a 75 would be perfect if your doing 8 discus.

Oh, and the best advice I can give you is to not buy from your LFS. Buy HEALTHY, QUALITY discus from a local breeder, or a breeder/importer who can ship to you (NOT somethingphishy.com). They will generally have much higher quality fish available at a better price, plus you can always ask them questions that you may have. Just because its expensive doesnt mean it's quality. Know discus or no discus!
