WARNING WHEN USING FLUVAL 404!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
With as difficult as it is to open one of those filters on purpose I have a hard time that one opened on it's own, besides the two large clamps on the side wouldn't be affected by power at all and would have held the lid on tight.

With regards to the bubbles, my 305 was doing that too every so often. After cleaning the filter thoroughly I stopped having that problem.

Sorry you had to deal with that, and thank you for sharing it here. I had no idea they could pop open when the power is cut.

The only time my FX5 had micro bubbles, a sponge had covered all of the holes in the middle of one of the rings and water flow was struggling to get through.
As for the 404 popping open, like others have suggested, I do not see how this was possible. My only thought was that the gasket went bad and water leaked from the head of the unit as a result of back siphoning when the power went out.
I run fluvals on most of my tanks (4- FX5, 4- 404, 1- 204). The only problem I had with water leaking was a bad gasket on a 405 a couple weeks ago. Even with that, the water trickled out and down the canister sides.

I use Eheim and had a similar experience. You can use shut off valves to keep this from happening in the future. Only thing is you have to be home and awake when the power goes out.
