I have worked with and sold this strain. Yes it is basically a red dragon, but I do think it deserves to be denoted as a red warrior because it is a very stable strain that dosen't have all the qualifiers of what you may call a RD. If I sold this strain now I would never call it a red dragon- people might get the wrong idea of what to expect.
Someone segrest and sunpet won't give out the name of has been producing these for many years (they are most likley in florida and a big box "pet trade" fish breeder).
They do not have a full flower line or many other markings you might expect to see on a ZZ, and they do not get nuchal humps for the most part. They do get a lot of nice red coverage like you would want to see on a red dragon, and most have at least some red in their fins, which you don't see too often in RD.
You may pay the same price for a Red Warrior fry from a pet shop that you would pay for a Red Dragon fry from a breeder or from Thailand, and the fry at the time may look very similar. However the fish they grow into becomes very different over time. For this reason I wouldn't call them red dragons.
female fry
male fry, belonged to another member. Grew to 7 inches (before dying of a disease, wouldve grown larger) 3/4 of his body was red but his head was still about what is was in this pic, maybe a little bigger.
