So I saw several new stock of crayfish today, they were in red, like in the pictures below, Red Swamp Crayfish? Anyway, they do facinate me and I have thought of having one. These Crayfish were about 5 inches long, I simply asked the shopkeeper about their maximum growth rate and to that he said ,"nothing really, just around that size."

Really? What's the difference between this and the Lobster? Are they the same? Shouldn't this grow huge?

You can look up Procambarus clarkii. We get them down here for $2 a pound. Don't keep them with pretty much anything else since these are efficient hunters.

These are not the saltwater american lobster (Homarus americanus)

Different species, different sizes. Like spiders and birds and our fish. Rather slow growers compared to our fish.

Try this: http://lobsterpond.com/index.htm

Now if you want a challenge:

Raise a bunch of these... then call me and I'll bring the butter :D . (just don't name them)

Redclaw do get rather big and I have found that the Walkamin strain have a much quicker growth rate( above 50%)
If intrested in Redclaw go and look up
Stik-Fins farms in Elkton Florida
Unfortunately the Gouldi is on the endangered species list(but good for them). But, IF it were possible it would be amazing to get some of them.
the time it would take to raise them! WOW

They look like the ones my dad brought home from work that I fed to my puffer. Gimpy, the one with the messed up claws, has been alive for an entire week. His four friends lasted a day.

No he is not bull****ting you, that one is already a full grown,he can be fully submerged in an aquarium providing an sufficient aeration,I have three of them consecutively, the other one eats only pellets(sinking) and other one eats small fishes and pellets and the other one commmited suicide..they are very easy to keep
attatched is ny former tank

Ok, thanks a lot guys...I am not into Crayfish but they really look nice to keep, small Crabs too. Not that I didn't trust him, but I was just confused with my own thoughts and understanding about them that I thought if the shopkeeper just wanted me to buy it, he wasn't sure about the fishes that I asked him, so I thought it would be safe if I ask here.

I just went back there today and guess what only two of the Red Swamp Crayfishes left! they were a lot just the day before...wow people baught many. By the way, very nice set up Mercury. Thanks a lot again everyone!:)

I just baught a Red Swamp Crayfish / Procambarus Clarkii! pretty awesome, I believe it is a male. There was only one left which shows how people here are interested in them.

Too bad my brother has borrowed my camera back to his Uni that I am unable to take a picture of him to show here. Oddball is right, it is an efficent hunter, seems aggressive...trying to go after my Plakat Betta now. He just ate a meal worm.

Can I have a decent info on them instead of going through pages and pages of people whining about them being a pain in the ass?:irked: *Continues to search* hmm..
