I dont understand how he can change so drastic. He was colored up in my 125g, I moved him into a 220 with his female with the mistake of having white sand as substrate and he went white!!! I have even put the old really nice green gravel :) to see if he would go back and nothing. Really starting to bother me he went from a bling who attacked the syphon to a washed out chicken ****. They have beenbeen in the new tank for three months with no improvments! Has this happen to any of you? Could it be tank size, he is aboit 10 to 12 inch. Also any bond the pair had is destroyed she will not come out of her divided area and he will just beat her.

Appreciate the help guys

Bad reaction to the move.

Are they otherwise normal, eating?

It is a 220? Throw some Parachromis or the like in there or like sized to take a beating and see if he changes? If he colors up then its just him not being dominate. If not you may want to treat for internal parasites.

Maybe it is water. Put more media and filtration.

Umbees can be like that. It usually takes a month to get any of mine to settle in to new tanks. But in your case it looks like somebody stole your umbee and replaced it rofl!! Nah don't worry, he'll be back to normal soon

Water is fine and no parasites, not my first pair of fish guys. Miguel your probally right about the move but three months I think they shoyld have adjusted. His freckles are even faded, im amazed how he can take a complete 180 and turn like this

LMAO well put I must have a Cichlid Theaf in the neighbourhood!! Ya im gonna change out the substrate and I got some boucourti and other Vieja to put in and get the moving, just patience running short.

That's a crazy difference. Is the lighting different at all between tanks? Maybe he's stressed from a higher intensity light overhead? I can't really think of any other things besides the actual move that would cause such a change. He is amazing looking though.
