Washed out Umbee!!!

Pretty sure your Umbee's only goal here is to test your patients and see if you love him unconditionally.. After that he'll turn back into the beauty.

No really though I'm not sure. I've had the same thing happen with my convict once, I moved her and she lost everything that had any color. Then a few months later I put her back and she's beautiful now. I dunno.. Maybe some fish just get attached to their aquarium.

I would say that due to his loss of nuchal hump that he is insecure of his surroundings(not feeling dominate or secure). I feel the others are right and try to put some target fish in there to get him going. Perhaps leaving the light off will help him out too. Changing the substrate like you plan will most likely help as well. Good luck bro...keep us posted :)

Now we talking about fish keeping.

Not about Peru Festae and Ecuador Festaes when they are the same thing.

I agree with you guys that the new tank has thrown him off. He didnt even eat the first two weeks barley and hid. He went from a 125g that was 4 inches off the ground to a 220 (30inch wide) 5 ft of the ground. Think he feels its to wide open and he has to be on guard all the time.

This just makes me luv Umbee even more because of the challenge they give you, but what they give back to you for your effort and patience is priceless! How many of us would refuse an Umbee that looked like mine does now not knowing that that same fish can possibly bloom into a complete stunner!!!

same with all cichlids. And that's the thing about cichlids.

Non-cichlid ppl dont know that.

Just throw in alot of wood for his comfort and let him adapt.
Some Fat super crossed FHs, when adapted to their home for a long time, if you take them to another tank they can DIE. Happened to me AnD my friend.

I think your boy will get back up and nice like before.
