SEATTLE -- The Transportation Department is warning drivers to expect congestion delays in August on northbound lanes of Interstate 5 through downtown Seattle.

Construction work will reduce capacity by about half for 19 days starting Aug. 10.

Officials said 65,000 drivers a day will have to find a new way north into Seattle or risk backups that could stretch all the way to Tacoma.

Several lanes will be closed around the clock, leaving only two or three lanes open to handle all of the northbound traffic, even during rush hours.

The project will stretch from Spokane Street to the Interstate 90 interchange.

Crews will be replacing expansion joints and resurfacing lanes.

Great... I did not know about that at all...

1) It's on a Saturday (less traffic)
2) It's during less traffic hours
3) it's pretty easy to go I-5 to 405 by Burien (and to A Place For Pets!) then take 405 to 520 through Bellevue into Seattle to get around the construction.

I have to drive up Monday and Wedensday next week from Enumclaw to Seattle, so I'll "test the waters".

But, I'm sure other people are thinking of going the same route. Even then I dont think its going to be a problem, but I'm just saying a few other people migh be going that way.

ill be working in seattle all next week so well see how it goes. with all of us from the area im shure we could figure out a way to "backroad" around the major delays.

I drive truck locally up here and dot has been sending out for the last month all the possible detours and back routes to take. there will be routes around but it will still take a lot longer than usual

Well, I went to the lfs and they were finally able to get my fire eels. In fact, they had them today, and I got to pick them up. So I now have my 2 fire eels. ;)

oh yeah definetely. but since its supposed to be backed up to tacoma MAYBE we could take 512 or river road from i5 in tacoma to 167 and then continue through renton down rainier ave into seattle. IDK just a thought.

maybe we should go to portland and forget about seattle. it would proboably be less time and gas i bet. anywhere around seattle going north will seriously be SCAARRROOOODD! we could check out the portland zoo as well.
