ok i have some oscars i want to have feeders as we all kno feeders have diseases wen purchased from pet shops.
so i have 2 twenty five gallon tanks ( barrel cut in half) and a 2 four gallon and a 5 gallon.( for fry if necessary)
i have some dalmation mollies and reg. mollies in a bath tub.
but i was wondering for a beginner breeder what kind of fish should i get i have bred live bearers before but find them boring and not enough off spring so i was thinking of putting one tank with lots of mollies (20) a canister filter (sponge so it won't suck fry) and lots of a plant that is locally called "pond weed" floating type thing. and feed them daily.
but what egg layers would be good for the other 25 gal. im thinking convicts (which i can acquire locally) maybe 6 juvies until they pair off. any other ideas im open to anything easy that makes lots of babies that grow relatively quickly.
ill eventually tell everybody what i can acquire and wat i cannot (i live in trinidad) so has to be warm water
??????????
if u think best ill put egglayers in both or live bearers in both ( i'd rather do live and egg) more fun

Go with convicts.
Just find two healthy fish, cons are easy to differentiate the sexes and are not real picky when finding a partner.
The reason most people get a batch and grow them out is because a lot of fish are harder to tell the sexes apart until they grow larger or start to spawn together.

ok thanks and u wud go with cons for both 25's ?
and how do i tell male from female ??
i also heard that cons grow pretty slow anybody?

Convict cichlids easily pair off...Partition the tank into three divided sections.........Put a male and female in each part.....I gaurantee there will be eggs from two out of the three couples within one month..........Convict cichlids lay around 50-300 eggs, depending onsize........Fed exclusively on baby brine shrimp, the fry grow really quickly within a month to half inch..............

ok will do thanks but the "tanks" that im planning on putting them in are two 25 gallon (barrel in half) so that dividers won't work well. ( not cut lengthways) so ill have two circular tanks.
that should be sufficent. right? one pair per tank.
and yea brine shrimp shouldnt be a problem.
and is breeding pike cichlids difficult i am thinking of accquiring some. just an after thought another endevour
