Im getting a 100g tank for free from my aunt and im gana get rid of my 40g. Im giving it to my friend who wants to get into the hobby but he doesnt know wat to start with. Any1 have any ideas??? Would want sumthing to stay in the 40g for life and if not life then a long time.

some cichilds thats what got me sucked into the hobbie

try smaller catfish

If he has never had fish, I recommend clown loaches, corys, plecos, and some SA cichlids.

Make it easy on the new guy. Find out what kind of water he has and use fish that like it. I have high pH and African cichlids like it.

I started with community fish and the ones that prefered differant pH LOST/REDUCED their color! :WHOA:

If the water does not lead him in a direction.....GO CICHLIDS! :naughty:

start with something simple.. before going extoic fishes unless your friend has all the patience and $$$. it's really hard to go on exotic and expensive fish and ending up loosing them.. not because you're new just because you don't have enough experience. many of us read a lot but in my own opinion... it pays to have on hand experience on it. from what i have heard... cichlids are very tough fish. you can go with oscars, red belly pirahna. if you want something not aggressive go with something else. it's really up to your friend.

Yah. This 40g is gana be his only tank for awhile. so sum fish are off the list.Like oscar would grow way too fast for him. I have one in my 100g and he is only a year old and is too big for my 40g. Im thinking of getting hiom started with african cichlids. He likes how they look and they would look nice in the tank.

Yeah I would say African's also... Like maybe a male Peacock cichlid and about four female's for him. Sunshine's have awesome color's
