Watching River Monsters with Jeremy Wade. title of the show "death ray" What a joke this guy is. he is explaining how freshwater stingray venom is like rattlesnake venom. How its so deadly. This guy is no biologist, he's a sport fisherman.

This is bacuse he's talked quite a lot with the people in the surrounding villages. They show wounds/injuries that these people have gotten from the rays. They tell him, some times through an interpreter, how it happened, how it felt, and they show the him their injuries. He's telling us what he was told by them. All together, it's an entertaining show. No, he's no Steve Irwin,:headbang2 no one had been as good before Steve,:headbang2 and I don't believe there is going to be another like Steve, or close to it.

Rattlesnake bite venom is a hemotoxin, untreated you die.

Stingray sting untreated will not kill you from the sting, its the secondary infection that kills you way later if you don't see a doctor.

one of the guys he was talking to got stung and 3 hours later he said he was fine. If it was a rattlesnake, 3 hours later with no treatment, he'd be almost dead.

All I'm saying is he's making freshwater rays to be a killer fish, instead of just a fish that will hurt the crap out of you if stung.

jeremy wades my uncle. how dare you speak of him that way. aha no but hes a cool dude man.

Totally agree with you, this sort of nonsense is what makes people cut the tails off rays, pull out the stings or simply kill on sight....it is not much better than the idiots allowing tigers to be slaughtered for Chinese medicines that do nothing, it is education and culture change that is needed, not some sport angler spouting rubbish as it sounds good to the producers.

Well put Toby.....couldn't agree more!

i like the show but it pulls in more viewers if the thing hes fishing for is potentially deadly even if its just something basic . you know the type . the thing about steve irwin was instead of playing up how dangerous everything was he played it down and showed they wernt as bad as people make out in the other shows :D

totally agree though . they should just appreciate them rather than play on the fact that they can cause as much harm as a family dog in the wrong circumstances.

I gues we have to be aware of that there is many cultures in the world. Its like a snakeman would hate every country that has snakes as a good meal :)
Personaly i like the program, even tho they use strong words on rater normalitys :)

That show like so many others like it are for entertainment and not for education. The problem is... they put it on a station know for science and education and play it off like what is on the show if fact. Steve Erwin was a great enthusiast but was fairly careless in many ways in my opinion, though I like watching his show. I am still weirded out that he was killed by a ray and not a snake, because I feel he was the most reckless with venomous snakes. I kept dangerous snakes for about 10 years and was never bitten because I was careful and gave them the respect they deserve. I am extremely surprised he was never tagged.

I was always a big fan of Jeff Corwin, but I don't think his show is even on anymore.:irked::(

I think there needs to be a better fish show, because River Monsters although interesting to watch, is sort of a joke IMO.
