Water bridge

Interesting concept!

Vancouver_98683 Vancouver_98683 - where is that? Wow. Crazy to think about how far the fish are going. I wonder how long it takes them to figure it out and if only some will do it when the bridge is that long.

What UJ species specifically do you want to keep, Binge?

Looking at my Del, she is only 8 inches and fairly thick, especially on a full stomach. I would worry about her being able to make the 90 degree turn as she got bigger. If it was straight it might be a different story.

Ornates and Weeksii also get pretty thick as they age. I think Teugs stay narrower in general but we've seen obese Teugs too. ;)

Does it have to be a 90 degree bend? I would err on the side of larger. It would be horrible to find out the hard way that it wasn't large enough.

But I'll be curious to hear what others have to say. I've never owned an adult-sized UJ.

I also agree with putting more than a 90 degree bend. That's nowhere near the natural turning radius or proprioception of a poly's body. Unless if the pipe was at least 2x the diameter of the poly.

However, I think the project is a cool idea. Would personally like to see either curves and straight lines instead of sharp angles right or acute angles. This would also keep the bridge functional with the increasing length of poly and probably more fun for the polys in the long run. If you think of a hamster play tube or water slides, they contain curves instead of angles for ease of movement through the tube. Just my opinion though :]

I still dont understand the need for the 90° or 45° fittings ?

I dont see the polys swimming up/down them. Now if the two tanks were level that would be cool.

Www.glass-holes.com sells all the glass cutting tools you would need but if the tank is tempered than thats a no go

Tanks will be level. And yes both are tempered glass.

The idea is 1 or two upside down "u's" to connect the tanks. Allowing the polys to go back and fourth from higher flow to lower. As they see fit.

I can also keep separate colonys of new world cichlids in each tank or have one with a larger cichlid that cant go thru the pipe like a dempsey or flower horn or what ever tickles my fancy at the time.

I want to do it this way so my polys can spread or more. If I get my way this summer I will add 2 Dell's a moke and a retro to the over all system.

I did not consider hamster tubing....I believe they make similar products for a guinea pig...which may be big enough for what I want and far cheaper.

I use 2" pvc under my lava rock as caves my larger sen damn near fills it. Why I was thinking 3-4"

Although poly may be right what if one gets trapped in there or confused and needs air....may hafto scrap the idea

Well, that one guy in the link did it with Bettas and Gouramis, and they need to breathe air.

How long can polys go? Polyaddict did mention an interesting scenario though, that if there were a pile of polys there, which might happen since it's cave-like? that they might block access for one of them to get out... Hmm.

All would be fine for a while, including the 90 deg bend, if you get them small. The question will be what happens as they grow larger, and with those species I'm mostly thinking Del because they are more of a girthy fish than some of the other UJs. With the link above, the 90 degree bend makes sense to me now, it's just still my worry long term. I'm sure a 3" width would be fine if there was no bend. I'd definitely want clear pipe to see if someone was hanging out in it if you are "missing" a fish. :)

This is still a cool concept, and I want you to ifigure out a way to do it so we can see it and watch videos. :)
