By doing 50% don't you get massive temp drops and ph swings

No and no.

My ph is over 8 in tank and my ph out of tap is over 8. My temp tank is currently 76 with no ill effects and that is what it runs all the time anymore.

Water temp fluctuations dont concern me as when a ray swims from the shallows to the deep it obviously doesny bother them.

Yes but your tank temp is 76 if you fill the tank with new water from the tap surely the new water is cooler than the tank temp and will 50% the temp drop must be a lot

I hate using hot water from the tap as I wouldn't drink that water

If my tap water is 60 degrees with a 50% water change and my tank is 76 degrees by the time it mixes it might drop it 8 degrees which.
From late spring/early summer to late autumn my tap water probably runs 60 degrees out of tap if not more in dead of summer since we are on a city well that pumps water to a tower then its pumped to the residents. So it is exposed to the summer heat.

Even if the water tap temp was 50 degrees its only going to drop the temp to a medium between 76-50 which would drop it temporarily to low to mid 60s and it will go right back up when I turn the sump back on.

Either way I have never had any ill effects doing it this way........

Only time I use hot water on my water changes is from December through sometime in April. Maybe a little longer this year since we had a cold cold winter here in the midwest.

Weekly manual water changes are the way to go or even sooner as I have seen peoples tanks on drips and they are in horrible need of cleaning either it being the glass, substrate or ornaments or all of the above. Not to mention lots of times unhealthy fish go unnoticed in drip tanks so interaction like manual water changes is good for keeping an eye on the health of your fish.

Hence the reason why some people with the 1500 gallon plus tanks on drip don't do fish updates too often. They would have to spend a day just cleaning it so you could see the fish!!

It's a insult you say my tank is in terrible state

I know for a fact my tank is kept better than yours without even seeing test results

Come to think of it it's a insult to anyone who runs a drip

1. The substrate shouldn't get dirty if the tank has the right flow and the right tank mates to clean up

2. health rays should be turning over the substrate all the time cleaning it

Agree with you T1. Drip system for most will keep your tank far far cleaner. Does a drip mean you don't need to clean your mechanical filtration? My answer is no but maybe if someone would like to test it and try it let me know.

Changing water for good water quality is far different than needing to clean the glass for better viewing. And some people don't do updates as they have busy lives and some don't like to share so much
