Gosh, I hate today !!!
I decided to do WC today on the 240. It's been 2 weeks since the last water change.
I started to turn off the return pump from the W/D and drain the water. Drained about 1/3 of the water. I hook up my 1/4" hardline from the water source to the tank (after it passed 10, 100 and carbon filtration) and start to fill the tank back up.
I't must've taken about an hour to an hour and a half to fill it up. I fell asleep and when I woke up the water level in the sump was about 1mm from the top rim. CRAP.....I started to drain the water from the sump and turn the return pump back on.
At this point, my fish are going nuts.
The blood parotts, gar, arowana, CK's started to sink and chill at the bottom.
The jade goby's head was sticking out of the water near the overflow gasping for air.
Just because the sump was off for 2 hours shouldn't be enough to cause lack of oxygenation. During the whole time, the AC110 was continously running to break the water surface to increase O2. I have lost power for 5-6 hours before and my fish all survived.
Crap, maybe my carbon filtration didn't filter the chloramine as effective as it was before (it's been 9 months since I changed the media). Thus caused burning in the gill and scales...to remedy the problem, I added double dose of prime and within 10-15 minutes everyone was back to normal.
Except the arowana...
Gasping for air and cloudy eyes. I tried feeding the tank and everyone accepted food except the Aro. He never refused food EVER !!!!
He started to swim back up on the surface, but still gasping for air and eyes are still cloudy.
I added another air stone (in addition to the two I ran all the time in the W/D), turn the lights off and started to increase the temp by adding another heater. (currently it's at 77, it's traken forever to get it to 82.
Anything I can do in the mean time ? just wait and hope for the best ?
If he doesn't improve by tmw, I'll set up a small tank an stick him in there with some salt.
He's my pride and joy, had him since he was 1.5" long and now he's at 14"
