water change gone wrong?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
just an update the 3rd fish is still completely fine. any way i can test for something in my water? like dissolved metals or something like that

never add tap water before treating tank. never. hopefully you use prime or safe. fish love to come the water inlet, if tank is not treated first they get a few mouth fulls of chlorine. gill dmg done.

You said shower head. Could you have inadvertently got soap in the water. I always use the sink faucet cause the shower head could have soap splatter from washing your hair.

i use api tap water comditioner. says aquarium dechlorinator. removes chlorine and breaks chloramine bond. should i switch to prime? even only a gallon or two of untreated water would be able to kill fish?

oh there goes my theory lol. Sorry this happened.

its cool. im not gonna get upset over zebra danios dying. i just wish i knew what absolutely killed them. im gonna buy prime and see how that works with the next water change before i add anything else. never thought this would be the problem stopping me from moving forward

Not to get to far off topic but what if you were using a python? That adds water right into the tank so how are you supposed to treat it first, or do you just empty with it and fill with buckets? Or add chemicals as you go?

Has there been any construction or anything near you recently? That can often add things to the water that will be bad for fish. Whenever my building shuts off the water or does any kind of maintenance on the boiler or anything, I try to wait at least 24-48 hours before putting any new water in my tanks. I'd wait longer if I wasn't in such a large building with a lot of water turnover.
