water changes will increase the growth rate of slow growers :grinyes:

i was experimenting with water changes during my winter break and i notice an increase in size of my clown loaches

along with heavy feeding of coarse
Ok... time to go do a water change on my Moba frys. :naughty: hee hee!

there is no benificial bacteria it the water column

thats a myth, the good bacteria stay clung to things such as your bio media, gravel, sand driftwood, etc, etc.

bacteria in the water column is not a good thing becasue that bacteria is the BAD kind, that can affect the health and well being of the fish.

most fish can take temp fluctuation easily

its the extreme that will kill them.

but say you only do a water change of 20% once a week and then you all of a sudden do a 50% water change, the parameters between the tank and tap water and very differnet to the almost extreme, and that why you get fish that die of shock.

best to keep up on adaquate water change percentages so the parameters are not so different. so you get cleaner water and healthier fishes  :grinyes:
i agree

But wouldnt that much and frequent of water changes remove a lot of the beneficial bacteria in the tank? and what about the tempature fluctuation?

When I do a water change on my saltwater tank, I get the pH, the salinity and the temperature the same as the tank itself. I also let the new water sit with an airstone in it for 24 hours before I put it into the tank. That way it is conditioned and as close as possible to the existing water. You could do the same thing for freshwater changes. That way, the params for the water would be as close as possible, minus the salt that is. I just did about a 40% on my 55g yesterday and got the replacement water to the same pH.

Water changes mean better water conditions.. Fish will not grow as fast if there are high nitrates present in the tank, due to what's called 'acute stress'. Acute Stress..A small amount of stress over a long period of time=Hindering Growth.

More Water Changes, means better water quality, and also means more feeding. What your customer is telling you is absolutely true, and the 25% every other day is not going to be a problem with bacteria, or water parameter issues. Delgado's right, it in now way will effect beneficial bacteria.. It shouldn't cause your water parameters to shift, because if your constant and frequent with your water changes, your tank water should match the tap water, which a CONSTANT, CLEAN, and LARGE environment combined with a high protein diet is the key to maximizing growth. No Stress, No Nitrates, More Food, More Clean Water.. It's easy ;)

At our import facility here, we change the water 15-25% a DAY, if not TWICE a day!! Keeps the fish happy and disease free, and allows us to maximize our stock levels per tank and keep them well-fed.

got a question guys.
i have no problem with doing very frequent water changes, in fact id have no problem with doing around 20% everyday. its just that, everytime i do a water change, i use so much water conditioner o_O. im running through a 64 ounce bottle in like a month o_O.

is there any way to do water changes without having to use conditioner each time? or is there a cheaper solution that only requires a few drops?
i have to do like 4 tbsp each time i change around 50%.

Buy a crystalized water conditioner, rather then a liquid one, in Bulk.. We buy 1gal tubs of Start Right water conditioner for about $50, and it treats up to like 5000 gallons. We have really good tap water though, and we don't hardly use conditioners. (unly upon importation..) Test your Tap water, and see how BAD it really is.. Your LFS might just be tricking you into spending money you don't need to spend..

Hey guys I just want to say thanks for all the wisdom that you guys shared with me and I will be taking my humble pill now. :) Thanks again guys
