Water Change Mishap

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sounds to me u ran ur canister w/o water in it... if its not the case maybe something was blocking ur motor. have checked it? is it workin now? i seriously hope ur fishes will be ok!
btw, u myt wanna add an air pump, considering u have a community of fishes there as they get bigger SPECIALLY D ARO, it will need more o2 than the canister is giving.

sorry, i have no idea what killed your adonis....but you should always clean your filter sponge in water from the tank (if you dont do this already)...sorry i couldnt be of much help..

Sorry about the loss.....

Sounds like it was the water the caused your fish to die. You can't change more than 50% of the water all at once.
The fish has reacted to the chemicals in the water. thats y 1 died and 1 got a cloudy eye.
Try adding some salt, anti chlorine or black water the next time round.

is absolute nonsense!

I and many other people do 80%-90% WC and never had any problem. Many breeders change 100% of the water daily!
An abrupt change in temperature can kill some fish. Too much anti-chlorine can suffocate them, too little can damage the gills. And there are many other possibilities. Large WC aren't harmful by definiton.

that 30min tragedy is disturbing. makes a hobbyist go paranoid and watch his tank full time!

Well...the Aro's eyes have cleared up and I used Prime after I topped off the water. All the fish seem to be normal again. I agree with a few of theories: Water temperature change and lack of oxyen being the main ones. As for my filter...I need to figure out how to fix it's problem. When it starts running, it's fine. It's just trying to figure out why it didn't start right away.

You need to treat the tank before you add the water, if not treat the water before you add it to the tank (in a big bucket/tub used just for fish water.)

Chlorine/chloramine burns the fish's gills, skin, eyes and it explanes the plant death. Add to that your filter didn't mix in the dechlorinator with the chlorine...

I'm sorry for your losses and wish the rest of your fish the best of luck.
