i don't use buckets....just a python and add it as I start filling up and then a little at the end....I have heard that the chlorine can hurt good bacteria that has built up, so it is prolly best to not completely wait till the end...

I use a python for my small tanks to fill, but on the big ones I would always have a mini cycle because of the chlorine killing good bacteria. I think it's because it takes so much longer to fill and the volume of chlorine is more. So now I use a big trash can with a heater and let it sit for a couple hours or a day, and then a small pump to pump into the tank.
turn on my tap, let the water come out of the python and just add the declorinator to the stream of water, rinsing the cap out with it. never had a problem.
