Water Change Question - Tap Water w/ Dechlorinator

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i add water straight from the tap and use Prime.. works fine for me..

For me, spread the dechlorinator onto the water and add direct tap water.

Anyway, it's better to understand the condition of the water supply at your area before jumping into conclusion.

Planning on motoros maybe leos down the road.

Only issue I am having is the area I can put the tank I can only fit a 3' wide tank. Think this will be alright for them? Length will be 6-8 feet in length. How many rays do you think would comfortably live in this sort of sized tank?

If it is 8 feet long, 3 feet wide and 2 feet high I would be comfortable with putting about 6 motoro/leo pups in there. From what I've seen/heard you could probably fit 3 full grown rays of that size in a tank like that. If you had a drip system and your filtration was really awesome (bead filter, fluidized bed, huge wet/dry, etc) I could see up to maybe 5 of them in there. The crowding could be a problem at that point, but water quality wouldn't be an issue.

we need to set u up w a drip system.. ha ha what part of MI u from? ill help u set it up!!!!

DEFINITELY. Unless you have some sort of soft spot for hauling buckets, a drip system really is the way to go with a tank of this size! The rays love the clean water, too. A drip system also reduces or removes the need for using activated carbon, because the water is changed out so often (thus saving you $$$, as the amount of carbon for a tank that big can be expensive).

I never change water on my established tanks; the drip system does it all for me, and all that I have to do is change out the carbon block / sediment filters periodically. :)

It is really cool to see someone else get into rays in a big way like this! Ashley and I actually just set up our 360 gallon tank (8ft x 3ft x 2ft tall) and it is definitely a sight to see. Depth isn't nearly as important as footprint. I wouldn't bother getting any higher than 2 feet tall, but you can always add more to have some extra water volume.

Best of luck, and keep us updated! :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2
