Water change question

FIRST POST :headbang2

Mt tanks are in the garage. I use the garage hose for siphoning and filling. I live The City(San Francisco), and the tap is one of the cleanest.

Rally's right, let the water splash on something (like your hand or splash in the water) before you add it, removes unwanted gases. Don't need to let it sit in a bucket, you remove enough gas by splashing, fish will be fine.

I use garden hoses and pump to remove water, then hose+tap to add water back. Fish will be fine if they breath a little chlorine for 5 minutes, % is diluted a lot no biggie. I don't like the python as I don't like to let the water run to remove water. Big waste. But I have heard that it can be turned off after the syphon has started...not sure never used.

I would agree I always fill my tank up letting the water hit and splash around I never do it underthe water. Make sure your tap is clean, I try not to use mine unless I have to. I have extremely hard water and it turns white when you heat it up from the fausset(sp). O__o I save gallon jugs and get water from the water machine outside the grocery store, or fill it up with the ro at my bf's

I also run tap from the sink into my tank...

just make sure to match up the temperatures of the tank and tap!

Living in BC, we're blessed to have very good quality tap water, so I just add it straight from the tap and I've never had problems with it.

Pythons work really well, but for my larger tanks I use a submersible pump that runs straight into my back yard so that it waters my lawn. :)

Get a KittY Slave or make a power water changer:

i use the garden hose and havent had any problems

Be carefull using a new garden hose because it can release toxins into the water. They say that people shouldn't drink out of garden hoses.

As they get older they release less and if you still want to use the hose be sure to let the water run a while to flush it out good be fore you use it. :grinyes:
