Hey guys this might be kind of a novice question but it's something i'm really interested in knowing to the people who have monster tanks like 300-600 gallons how do you preform a water change on it? Like in my dorm i currently have a 10 gallon a 1.5 and a little tub with a beta in it and to change the water i have around maybe 8-10 gallons worth of empty water containers I take the containers to the shower fill them up with water wait 24-36 hours for the chlorine to evaporate empty out 50% of the water in each tank and replace it with the newer water, next semester i'm moving to a suit and i really want to put a 55 gallon or larger in the common room, I just don't know how I would preform the water change in it would the best bet be should i keep the method i've been doing but keep more empty containers around? I'm just looking for the most efficient method to keep my fish alive especially in the first few weeks of the tank

For under 100 gallons u could probably get away with the use of a 5 gallon bucket and just making a few trips. everything else probably a python that attaches to the sink.

hm i wonder if the best bet since i am in a dorm is keep a few 5 gallon buckets around and just make 5 separate trips to the showers (this is for next semester)

excellent i'll talk to my dad to use that for a tank I want to get at home i don't think i can hook a python to a tap up here at college, they'd probably frown about that..haha people here already think i'm crazy with my tanks :P

I use a pump connected to a hose pipe to pump water from my tank to the drain or down the toilet. Filling it up i usually have to carry between 5 and 10 bucket fulls of water, or stick the hoes pipe from the mains in there.

i'm in college too and i live in on campus housing but there apartments and i would just say 1 5 gallon too many will get in the way especially cu most dorm rooms are tiny...GL keep us posted. And using prime might be better and quicker than having a few 5 gallon buckets around ur room

Just go the 5gallon jug route, being in a college dorm it's probably your only option. Double check too some dorms won't allow something as big as a 55gallon and you don't want to get caught with it and have to take it down that would suck.
