im gonna go a head and do the 50% w/c later but i now i have another question how come i have heard over and over again the you should only do 25% or 50% w/c weekly and no more than that

Good question! If I had to guess I'd say people say change less because

1) a lot of people think large water changes aren't needed, and they probably aren't in most cases unless something is wrong (the tank is overstocked, the filtration isn't enough, etc)

2) if the new water doesn't exactly match the tank water in PH, temperature, hardness, etc. then changing a larger percentage of it will stress the fish more.

If anyone can think of another reason I'd be curious to know about it.

I agree with that. Give em more time. And try not to overfeed this time. Otherwise every effort will be futile.

I do a 25%-50% every week and my water comes out amazingly clear and i have oscars!!!
