how much water change is enuff? i have a baby jardini with a two baby datnoids in a 55 and is changing the 20% of the water every 4 days is that healthy...

Weekly water changes are esential to a healthy aquarium. Just how much depends on the bio-load of your fish. For example in my 120 I have two 8"-9" Oscars and I change 40% of the water weekly. I'm also a freak about my water quality so I probably do a little bit of an over kill. But Os have a very heavy bio-load. Smaller fish may have a smaller bio-load so less of the water would need to be changed. The only real way to tell is to monitor your water parameters and then you will be able to judge how much to change.

i will normally test the ammonia level in the water before the weekly 30% water change. this way , i will know if the frequency of the water change is sufficient and also ensure that my bio-filteration is working.

best bet get yourself a good test kit. Learn to use it properly. I use nitrate levels to help establish my water changing schedule. Nitrates under 40 ppm is what seems alot of people go with. I have different levels I keep in different tanks though; My 85g with discus I keep below 10 ppm this is two 30 gallon changes weekly. My 75 gallon with convicts gets 15-20 gallons changed weekly but the nitrates are in the 20-30ppm range.

if you are changing roughly 10 gallons every 4 day you are probably ok, but to be sure you must test. As your fish get larger though the water change volume will need to increase.

it all depends on your fish i do 20% water changes almost daily because the damn pleco poops so much and i hate having pleco poo all over my tank
