thanks for the reply can anyone answer my other Q's
and can i put purified water in? or stick to tap water, and if i put tap water in do i have to use the water cleaner everytime?

and wont 50 % water change make the water real cold

yes, if the tank is new and not cycled, you will have a build up of ammonia or nitrites which can kill your oscar.

Please read the following post regarding cycling a tank, it is on MFKs sister site aquaria central, you will need to register but this will be well worth your time. You need to get a test kit to test for Ammonia, Nitrites, And Nitrates these water parameters are very important to the health of your fish.

How long has the tank been set up?
What is the filter yopu have on your tank?
Is the oscar the only fish you have?
How big is the oscar and the rest of the fish you have if any?
What are you feeding your oscar currently?

probably inadaquate filtration. yeah do about 25 to 50 a week. poor conditionas and small tanks can stunt fish and lead to health problem later in life.

Waters been tested, Perfect water, its been setup for 2 weeks, i do have a small oscar by itself in there, i feed him pellets, and i have the filter that the tank came with in the starter kit

Two weeks, the tank isn't cycled. With an uncycled tank YOU should be testing water params daily. A one time test at petsmart means nothing. For the good of your Oscar, follow my suggestions in my last post, don't add any other fish and reduce feedings.

As I stated before ammonia and nitrites can kill your fish, you need to educate yourself on the cycling process.

In the future, I wouldn't cycle a tank with a messy fish like an oscar. Use smaller, cheaper fish like Platys.
