hmmm..most older fish books I have seen always recommend that warmer is better than colder.

cold water slows down metabolism and can shock fish more than warm water varying by the same degree.

ie 4 degrees colder is worse on the fish than 4 degrees warmer..

in other words, if you cant match exactly you are better to add water a little warmer rather than colder.

I have always done this. a bit warmer works fine.
My thoughts exactly I am surprised I thought I would be the only one to err on the side of warmer. I mean like 2-3 degrees warmer max... But I can change 65% of my water and maintain my temp by a half degree. I am a little nutty about my water and tank lol :screwy::screwy:

Also if your worried about metals and all that...

Has anyone here clean flushed their water heater lately? I do it once a year because of fish keeping. Usually there are some deposits at the bottom. After 5 years there almost always are deposits. None of these deposits are a huge deal just about any good dechlor eliminates them easily. I do it to extend the life of the water heater too.

i myself also go a little warmer and also with in same tolerance as yourself. im constantly running back and forth trying to match the temperature.

i didn't want to argue with anyone, that's why i didn't post my opinion when i created this thread.

this is the kinda thread that can get closed very easily..

lol agreed. Now I do my python changes by pumping the water in a clean trash can with a heater and pump. It gets agitated and dechlorinated then carbon filtered for 30 minutes before adding to tank. (Theres a heater in there as well I set to match my tank. :D paranoia at an all new level. But its chompers and others that reccomend dechlorinating first and I gotta say I see stress with the python direct adding method. :( not so much with my bichirs but definitely with my African cichlids.

I try to match the Temp of the tank to the Temp of the new water i am putting in the tank , so its ever a little cooler or warmer each time i do it ! :)
