I’ve recently been interested in getting a black ghost knife from my LFS. I’ve read that they are very sensitive to water changes. My water changes are a bit strange, as I have to chain link garden hoses outside to the back of my house as that is the closet water source. I usually just pump the water straight into the tank. My tank currently has very hardy fish so this doesn’t bother them. My tank is in the basement, and carrying multiple buckets of water down two flights of stairs just isn’t an option. The tank is a 90 gallon. The water in my city is known to be very soft, and frequently the PH is found to be high.

How do you do water changes without harming your BGK in a large tank? (And without it taking 4 hours haha).

The only solution I could think of is buying a large tupperware container, pumping water into that, treating it, then siphoning it into tank. I saw a video that King of DIY made on it being better to acclimated your fish to your local water parameters as opposed to having constant fluctuations in water parameterss.

Bgks should be fine with water changes. Just make sure ur adding a dechlorinator and watch ur water parameters. Almost all bgks available are captive bred. So a bit more tolerant of our water.

should not be a problem as stated, mine had no issues with 90% water changes every week, city water and seachem safe.
