Water Changes in a Planted Tank

Simple Question...

How often do you do water changes and gravel vac in a planted/heavily planted tank?

Really depends on your stocking level, nitrates, fertilizer dosing method, etc. There is no "easy" answer.

I gravel vac 1/3 of tank bottom and change 1/3 of water weekly!

with heavily planted tanks. usually once a week water change. and never vacuum the gravels.

For me, I do 50% weekly water changes, no vac, just siphon and refill.

Are you using fertilizers? What kind? I do weekly 50% water changes. Its especially important if you are dosing fertilizers to keep up with regular water changes of decent quantity.

Agreed. 50% a week for me.

I also vacume, however all my substrates are sand so instead of going deep I just vacume some of the dead stuff off the bottom lightly so as not to have too much decaying matter build up.

i only do 25% but it isnt that heavily planted and dont vac the gravel either
