I do wc's in varying amounts on all of my tanks, every other day or every three days. I don't really mind it. Carrying around heavy tubs and buckets is a great way to stay in shape.

But sometimes I just don't feel like getting off my ass to carry water around. So what I'm wondering is.. What are some of the best ways to help keep my tanks cleaner and healthier in between wc's, and what have others done to keep their tanks clean with slightly less frequent wc's?

I have a water changer hose, but it's not hooked up yet. In a few months ill be able to transition to that (boyfriend has got to get his garage/hobby room organized first).

I use pothos, they eat the nitrates and they cut my wc in half! Very simple and economical! Just an ivy plant, the roots are submerged into my water, the roots absorb the nutrients, reduces n03 and purifies air. Needs hardly any light.

But not overfeeding is the best and cheapest way to eliminate lengthy wc.

I have a 50ft hose, but it doesn't reach the faucet or shower upstairs. Even if it did, the damn thing doesn't fit on either the sink or shower.
My only other option is the garage, unless you know of a method that doesn't require modifying my house (I rent).

F1 - I really like the pothos idea!! I'm equally addicted to plants and fish, so I'm going to give that a try.

The sell adapters for the sink at any home improvement store. Save yourself a lot of time and effort

The 50 footer should be able to reach somewhere outside where u can drain the water or a bath tub/shower. So at least you can cut your "workout" in half.

As for the sink there are adapters you can get at your local home improvement store.

I have a eheim 2262 with a back flush port. Fx5 has one too. I just hook that up to a hose and drain the tank to outside. Then put prime in the tank and then use the garden hose to fill it up. The only draw back for folks in the north is you will have to monitor the temperature in the tank if you can't mix on the hot water. In California 40% water change would drop my tank 5 degrees for forty minutes. It would be much more I think in winter in the north.
