Water Changes with a Python

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i used to do it after refilling the tank but then it just made since to do it before.. ok heres a question. add enough conditioner for whole tank or just new water??

shut the filter off if you can. That will eliminate the chance of chlorine entering it. Once the tank is filled and the dechlorinator has been circulated it's safe to fire the system back up.

When I used to add conditioner, I estimated and dosed for the amount of water I was adding and that was fine. However, I've been doing smaller but more frequent water changes without conditioners and everything is still ok.

I add after I filled the tank with python.

Here is the trade off, either you let your fish expose to a little chlorine while adding the water, or you OD them with conditioner before adding the water.

I've never heard of fish OD'ing on prime

I like to put the prime/dechlor/conditioner in right after I finish draining. the just start pumping water back into the tank. The water coming in mixes it up well.

Depending on how big the tank you have for the mixing rate.

If you have a big tank that takes half an hour to fill, then the prime added pre-filling will all be dissolved within fifteen minutes of filling. That leaves the rest of water untreated.
