once in a blue moon
and i'm not joking
i changed water 4 times now this year

but aren't snake heads sensitive to ph changes?

Anyone else? So far I've got 4 times a year and fortnightly which is a big difference! Could you tell me what volume you do in your replies as well please?

Hi ,
my C.Pulchra get 25% a month/6 weeks.

To keep your Channa happy don't ever do large changes cos it can kill them!

;)

ho mate , just for the record for people who are pretty new to channa baloo is probably the most sucsessful channa keeper in the uk and has wrote many articles about channa including the better ones pfk has published . he deserves to be listened to .

a low tech low light planted setup does not need water changes , likewise snakeheads do not like water changes , this is the reason we use this set-up . as well as liking lots of aquatic vegitation.

we do water changes to dilute natrates , in a low tech low planted setup nitrates are kept in check by the natural process of the plants . its too complicated to go into here and there are many article on this method allready on the net.

keep water changes with channa down to a bare minimum. in my opinion only a very happy fish breeds , and ask any channa breeder how many times they change water and you will get the same answer , very little !!! once every 6-8 weeks at the most . but many inc myself leave it much longer

cheers col
