Water changes

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use a 50' python, they are ok but rather slow on the draining and I have been a little cheap on getting a pump and hose so I just play 360 while it drains...

bucket system here. i guess its not too bad for only having to do a 30g n 55g. but when i get bigger tanks i will prolly invest in a python.

Go back in time 6 months ago and you would see me hauling buckets back and forth:irked: then the almighty Python came into existence(to me at least) and life is awesome.:headbang2 God Bless Pythons!

Submersible pump, hoses and a large water container. Join the present, put down the bucket.

Yea because a pump and a hose is high tech stuff, lol

I started draining tanks out of a window many years ago to speed up the process, but still carried buckets to refill. But for the last 5 years or so I've had a clear vinyl hose with an attachment to screw it into my kitchen sink and refilling is now a piece of cake.

For the python users... please don't run your faucet the whole time you are draining your tank. Getting it started this way is one thing, but leaving it set up this way wastes sooooo much water.

I only have a 55 gallon so i guess 8 buckets all in all isn't to bad (4 buckets for dirty water and 4 others for clean). I just dont have the patience to wait for my tank to drain with a python, and i deffinitely don't trust running direct tap water into my tank for temperature and chlorine reasons. Though it may take a little longer to fill at least i know that the temperature is gonna be right and that the chlorine/chloramines are gonna be neutralized before going in my tank.

you would be waiting all day for a tank to drain, it is already slow enough with the water running. besides you drain 7 gals of water per 1 gal of water "wasted" so it really isnt that bad, its not like I am wasting it watering the grass/plants as I live in an apartment. But that is another debate to be had at a later time...

Merry Christmas!!! :headbang2

I know the exact position to turn the hot and cold to get it about 78ish so no wories for me.:D Also I just dump in the Prime after I fill the tank up or dump half of the dosage if it's a long fill, then the other half at the end. Been doing this for 6 months, nothing wrong yet.........Knock on wood. Merry X-Mas all!!!!!!!

vinyl hose, rubbermaid tubs, shower attachment and a pump...

buckets are for topoffs and for mixing for the 30gallon brackish

Bucket here but we used the two bucket method. Drain one tank, as the buckets are filling(via the wife) I start on tank 2 and then onto 3, takes less than an hour for all three
