From my experience with most CA cichlids,
Huge waterchanges w/ very little food = little growth.
Huge waterchanges w/ huge amount of quality pellets, shrimp, etc.. = huge growth
I have been testing for ammonia and nitrite but not nitrate (which I never find any of) so I guess I am missing an important step. I am going to purchase a nitrate test and see what it shows. I dont actualy have a growth problem but was just curious what the relationship was. Makes sense though, thanks oddball.
Well once again my lack of knowledge got me in trouble! I was basing my water changes on ammonia and nitrite tests only which always come back clean (I had not changed any H2O in 2 months!) Since purchasing the nitrate test I found I was right off the scale (>110 ppm!) After an 80% water change 2 days ago I am still at 5 ppm So I think I will do another 50% on sunday to get back on track.
Thanks for all the help BEFORE my fish started doing the backstroke!!!
