Lets for calculation sake say I'm working with a 55gallon tank that needs a 10% per week water change. Instead of doing 5.5 gallons at once could I do a 1.1 gallon change 5 days a week. If so I'd much rather do that.

Yes, but can you make sure your going to keep up with it every single day. Doing a WC may stress certain fish out, doing this 5X a week could cause more of a problem then one big WC. I like weekly, but it doesn't matter. Whatever you prefer.

As for a 10% change on a 55? What is in it? A few minnows?
I have 3 - 55 gallon tanks.
FH - 2 WCs a week. 1 - 50% 1 - 25%
Ceylon - 1 WCs a week - 50%
Fahaka (moving him to a 125 ) - 2 WCs a week 1 - 50% 1 - 25%
It's all about water quality!
A series of smaller water changes do not equate to one larger one. It's basic math.
Becuase you will end up changing a portion of the new water at the next water change. for example:
let's say i did 1 50% water change well now the tank has 50% clean water and 50% dirty water, the next day i do another 50% water change i end up removing 50% of the dirty water AND 50% of the clean water so now there is 25% of the dirty water left.
Which i could've just done 1 75% water change to equal that and used less water.
works the same for much smaller water changes.
im surprised no one brought this up in all threads of this topic this is always mentioned in the first post.

simple answer, I'm lazy. A simple water change that takes 5 minutes mon-friday is nothing to me. But doing it all at once, walking back and forth 5+ times or filling up a 5 gallon bucket and trying not to spill it or break my back is harder.

I really really have to set up a tap and sink in my besement...
I enjoy doing water changes so doing 2 x 50% water changes most weeks is relaxing to me but i agree one "big" one is better than doing 5 small ones.
