ok so since i started fish keepying i was taught that letting your water sit for 24hours will get rid of contaminates through evap.... so every week when i do a fresh water change i fill up a 5 G water bottle with really hot water nd i let it sit there intill the next water change i loose about an inch of water in there so no biggie the main question is is this practical> ? has any1 heard of this> > ?

I would let salt water sit for a day
but that's to fully disolve the salt

o by the way i mean fresh water nd its just i do it as a precaution

I believe with substances like Prime this practice for FW tanks has all but gone the way of the DODO. I remember my mother talking about keeping fish in the 60's and 70's leaving buckets of water out. My tank gets a garden hose strait in the tank and i add a little Prime when im done. I havent had water problems for 10+ years (in the early years before i knew of Prime, stress coat was used)

I never heard of that method. I would just do it the regular way. I have a 240gal, and imagine if I let the water sit doing a 25% water change, that's 60gals. So I would do it the regular way.

i dont like chemicals intill i get to the point where i need a hose to do waterchanges ill stick yo my method
