Has anyone had any luck with hooking up a garden hose to the bathroom or kitchen sink and adding water that way during a water change? Adding a little Prime as the water fills up the tank. Dont mind taking the water out of the tank via the 5g buckets, but adding it back that way is soooo tedious. Just thinking of ways to simplify water changes.

Anyone with first-hand experience with this method?

yes I do this every water change. I dump all the prime I am going to need in before I start filling though and then just let the tap go.
I bought a pump for taking the water out, using a syphon can take a while on tanks over 3ft long.

i dont like the idea of a water hose at all. i like knowing my water is completly dechlorinated before i add it to the tank. i have a 60 gallon tank i use strictly for my water changes. fill with water, add my goodies. tank has a powerhead to mix.... i run a pump n hose from there to my tanks.

been using a regular garden hose, and just add declorinator before adding water(been doing it that way for over 5 years never lost a fish this way)a python just wastes to much water(cut my water bill byalot when i stop using mine.)

I use a python and like someone else stated it doesn't seem to have enough suction. What kind of pump did you use and how did you attach it to a hose. I would be interested in trying this.

After years of wasting water with my Python I purchased a Mag Drive 9.5 pump and use it to siphon/clean gravel instead of using the water running wide open to create the siphon.

Regular garden hoses will leach toxins and are not recommended.

Interesting.... You could just submerge the pump for a quick water change but how do you prime the pump to do a gravel vacuum?

Curious on this as well... the entire process, that is.

What? You arent strong enough to just tip your tank over on its side and dump some water out? It only weighs a bazillion pounds, nothing you cant handle. Time to hit the gym. :D

But seriously the python is AMAZING! Especially when you have multiple large aquariums.

I use a New Jet 3000, regular garden hose, one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hozelock-21...7E9U/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1293017541&sr=8-3 and the plastic from a large gravel vac as a garden hose slips perfectly on the end where the vac's rubber hose normally goes.
