i want to run a water line right to my tank so that when i do water changes i can just turn the spicket on and fill the tank back up. Usually when i when do a water change and substrate vac. I wind up draining at least half the water from that tank so does the water i refill the tank with have to be the same temp as the water in the tank? should i run both a hot water line and cold water line and get a valve that will mix the water to a given temp?

I always run both hot and cold, to equalize temps.
Where I live the cold water hardly ever rises above 50'F, so a 50% water change with only cold could be fatal.
Also, cold water under pressure can be super saturated with oxygen, and create gas bubble embolism if added directly to the tank.
So I send even combined hot/cold to my sump first. Passing thru pumps and venturis quickly releases the supersaturated gas.
I use float valves to avoid overflows, the float valve is the red thing on the right. They are made to supply drinking water to, and be attached to cattle troughs.
