I was thinking of getting a pump to help with water changes, but I thought that it was nice to be able to get into every nook and cranny with a regular siphon. I'll still get a pump to save time given some weeks where there really is no time to perform tank maintenance.

I would usually drain around 60-75% of tank + sump water, dump a full dose for 300 gals of safe (I have a 180g dt + 75g sump) and run water straight from tap with fine filter wool at the end.

My BB seems to survive ,and I would assume that this is bad practice, but you do the best you can with what you have :D

I can only stabilize around 8g of water at a time, which is reserved for my 15g growout tank :)

I still use phyton to vacuum the dirt in the bottom, after the dirt are gone ill use the pump just to drain the water cause phyton takes forever especially with huge tanks. I have a 260g and a 150g sump so that will take me about 40min to 1 hr just draining 80%.
