I've been doing three 20% water changes a week for some time. My wife and I had a baby girl 2 months ago. I would like to spend more time with the family. Do you guys think I could get away with doing one 30% water change a week?

I normally do 50% water change once a week, and that seems to be fine. Just make sure that you use the right amount of dechlorinator. Better more than less. Chlorine is deadly to living organisms, and could cause disease if not totally removed from the water.

You clean 3 times a week??? I clean only once a week, and I do a 20% water change. I also clean the filters once a month.

Jen ;)

I do 25% on my fresh and 10% on my salt weekly. I'm thinking about upping my change on my fresh to 50% though.

Thanks for the input ... I definitley go over board with the water conditioner ... Yes, I clean three times a week. I'm kind of obsessive compulsive with the fish tanks. It just takes soooo long to do water changes on 2 125's, 4 75' s, 2 55's and a 180. And that's what I have left after I got rid of a few. I'll let you guys know how things turn out. Thanks again.

if youu think 60% per week was required due to stocking filtration etc then maybe do 30% twice a week if it was just you be obsessive thhen maybe only do 30-40% once per week.
i am back to doing 40% every 2 weeks but change 10gal every other day to remove unsightly crap.

my 55 gal witch house's my oscar get a 50% water change per week and another 50% change in my 20 gal L (managuense, tsn, convict, rapheal catfish) then I do 25% per week changes in my two 10gal tank's (T1 jack dempsey 4'', T2 empty nowbut still runing..

I do 60% upwards twice a week whether i need it or not. It has become a habit so i just do it every 3 days. I vacumn the sand a bit then just attach a pump to my python to suck the water out ( less water wasted ).

Oh yah regarding the water change, i heard from 1 dr. that tap water doesn't have chlorine but flourine. Can anybody confirm about this. I do 50% water change every week or depends on the ph level.
