where we have it for cheap
hello world....been having this water clarity problem on my 180. i had my water tested and there is no problems parameters are all good. I used some water clarifier by tetra and my water looked crystal clear a few days later and its back to cloud city. any one have any suggestions on what I should/could do to get my water clear. Filtration is an fx5 with bio media and carbon. stock is 1ft rtc, 3 green terrors, 1 5 star general, bichir, and 2 convicts. any and all advise is greatly appreciated thanks in advance

im not sure if this will help but you might get some long lasting effects by doing a small water change and cleaning out the filter media. i do that will my established fresh ands alt tank and that usually does the trick. another thing you could do is eliminate all prepared foods and just use live or frozenr for a few days just to rule out any fih food brand. every tank is different though. ome times putting in a sponge filter for a day or so can really help get those really fine particles out.

Polishing pads in the top media basket works wonders

What do you mean by "all good"?
Ammonia=0
Nitrite=0
Nitrate less than 40/60?
Any color to the cloudy water, if so, what color is it?
How long has the tank been running?
Have you changed anything lately?

You had your water tested...... right there, problem.

Go buy a test kit, learn how to use it. Do not buy dip sticks, buy a liquid reagent kit that uses test tubes. Personally I like the API test kit, but there are many good brands out there. Cost is about $25 on line and about $40 in a store, your choice, just get one. Very few pet stores use anything but dipsticks which are at best, inaccurate.

Next stop feeding all together for a few days, lets get food out of the equation all together. Are you doing a gravel vac when you change the water? Wow much water are you changing and how often do you change it? When you clean, are you moving ALL tank decorations out of the way to get at the gravel under them? When was the last time you cleaned the FX5? I hear people on here say they clean theirs every 3 months, but I have to do mine every 2-3 weeks.

i use to have cloudy water in my 180. after water change, the water would be alittle clearer for a couple of days then turn very cloudy. all water parameters were good.
chemical and more mechanical made a huge difference.
i got seachem purigen, 50 micron polishing pads, carbon, added a ac110, and added a 18w turbotwist uv,

my water is very clear now. i heard great things about chemi pure, ill be getting that shortly

i say you need more bio, in the form of another fx5/canister

well i put in some bio-clear and my tank cleared up. oh the cloud was white.....well it was fine for about a week and now its back to white cloudy. i talked to a guy that said the white cloudiness is beneficial bacteria. now my question would be why is the bacteria "super accumulating" throughout the tank. i would assume it would more so in the fx5. so i figure i will do a 20% water change and add some more bio clear tomorrow. Is this what I will be reduced to or are there better options. thanks in advance guys.
