I'm thinking about taking carbon out of my aquaclear 50. I was wondering if I should expect a decrease in water clarity when I take the carbon out and replace it with another sponge. Right now it's crystal clear...should it remain the same without carbon?

carbon takes out hemicals and such from ure tank so i doubt it .

I don't run carbon in any of my tanks, and they are all clear, except the one with almond tree leaves. There probably will be a drop in clarity due to the loss of the carbon. Unless you are using a really fine sponge.

you may get a drop in clarity because you'll be removing some bacteria as well, but it should clear right back up.
I have several tanks (a lot with aquaclear) and none have carbon. They're all very clear.

a couple of weeks ago i also removed the carbon from my filter and tbh i didnt see the slightest of change. obviously you will loose some bacteria but that will be back in notime. i dont expect major changes.

I'm at around 7 months without running carbon in any of my tanks, no problems with clarity or smell from any of them.

If you keep up on your maintenance you should have no problems at all.

I have never been fond of carbon and have no problems without it.

I haven't used carbon in decades and have no problem with clarity. I do use Chemi-Pure resin in some tanks where I'm worried about water parameters among my fry growouts.

I don't use carbon in any of my tanks. I haven't had any drop in clarity or water quality. Just be sure to keep your maintenance up.
