I currently finished setting up my 60 gallon aquarium.... and have a xp3 Fluval which is running. I dropped some AquaPlus (Tap Water Coditioner), and after 5 hours I dropped some "Cycle".

How long does my aquarium have to wait until I put some new fish in it??? :screwy: need help ASAP my 30 Gallon is screaming for larger room

was the cycle bought from a fridge? many many stores sell it off the shelf when it needs to be kept chilled. personally i dont rate the stuff. you say you have a primary tank, i think i would have transferred everything to the new tank and recycled the og tank. but you've started now so follow the instructions on the cycle bottle thats what they are there for

Ive heard cycle is worthless,Biospira is the only product with science to back it up.Best bet is to move your fishes in.Transfer the filter media from your running tank,or run both filters on the occupied tank for a few weeks.you need to get a bacterial colony going in the new filter and that can only happen with an occupied tank.

how long do i need to wait? nothing is said on the bottle... should i wait 24hours or 48 or 72? the petshop i go to says 2 - 3 days... :screwy:

Howdy,

I'd say better safe than sorry. A few days won't make a difference in the long run, do they? Be patient, and monitor the ammonia and nitrite levels thoroughly. They will be the only data you can rely on when it comes to when to stock the tank. I personally waited about a week, with biostarter, and I suggest to introduce a couple of fish at the time, and again: follow those ammonia and nitrite levels.

Patience is a virtue in our hobby... ;)

wow... 1 weeks... you got some great patience their
my 30 gallon is getting to crowded... i might not be able to wait that long.... i'll try my best... :) my 30 gallon is getting 50% water change almost everyday... to many fish... water is getting to toxic for the fish.... got a 5 gallon but wouldn't help that much... ;) thank you guys for the info! i'll keep them in mind! :headbang2

Im cycling my 60 right now. Its been a week and the Ammonia is finally at 0 and my Nitrites have spiked.. Now the long wait till the Nitrites go down to nill. I expect at least 2 more weeks at least before they start to drop. I HATE THIS PART!!

I say do what gomezladdams said and use the current filter on your new tank as well as the new filter. It will help in jumpstarting the cycle.

think you should add the fish first and then add the cycle

the way i see it is if you add cycle first and just wait a week or afew then those bacteria starve to death because there is nothing to eat.

so how i see it is that you would just be wasting it if you put it in first and wait. . .

spot on advice there.rushing the cycle process will only make your fish stressed or die.
