my juv water dragon(komodo) is really coming along.he will run but once he is in my hands he will remain calm as i rub his head and throat,and goes in a sleep like trance and closes his eyes.Is this a good start.

From what I have read the behaviour you describing is caused by a stressed lizard. It is kind of like if "I can't see you, you are not there" type deal. It is a stress coping strategy.
If I were you I would let WD settle in before handling him anymore.

It is a chinese water dragon........it seems to let me pick it up now tho
and dosent close its eyes till i rub its throat and it opens its mouth as if its relaxing and basking.

to be honest i dont have a thermometer but i keep it humid to where hes baskin comfortably,but im gettting a thermometer today and one for humidity
no he opens his mouth as if hes saying ahhhhhhhhhh.like he likes the head rub i give with my finger.Im pretty sure hes not gasping for air.
